Legendary former UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS, EL PASO men's basketball coach DON HASKINS died SUNDAY of congestive heart failure in EL PASO.
HASKINS, 78, coached the school, then known as TEXAS WESTERN, to the 1966 NCAA national championship with an all-black starting five against the favored (and all-white) UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY squad, a story retold in the 2006 film "GLORY ROAD." He coached the MINERS for 38 seasons and was inducted into the NAISMITH BASKETBALL HALL OF FAME in 1997.
HASKINS also hosted a radio show for REGENT Talk KROD-A/EL PASO.
