The CRTC has denied the application of GROUPE RADIO ANTENNE 6 INC. to move its French Full-Service CFGT-A/ALMA, QC to FM. The company owns two other FMs in the area, and the agency said that the application did not offer enough justification for the CRTC to waive the ownership restrictions. The station was previously denied a move to FM in 1993.
The agency also denied TANTRAMAR COMMUNITY RADIO SOCIETY's application for a new English-language Type B community FM in AMHERST, NS. The Commission voiced concern that the format of the proposed station would be too commercial and would have too great an economic impact on crosstown MARITIME BROADCASTING SYSTEM AC CKDH-A (LITE ROCK 900).
But the CRTC did approve the CBC's application for a temporary FM mono transmitter in LAC-MEGANTIC, QC to rebroadcast CBC RADIO ONE affiliate CBVE-F/QUEBEC CITY while usual low-power CBC RADIO ONE rebroadcaster CBMO-A/LAC MEGANTIC is off the air for transmitter site renovations. The low power transmitter will operate at 104.1 FM with 50 watts.
