PRINCIPLE RADIO Spanish WESX-A/SALEM, MA "CONNECION HISPANICA" co-host PELAGIO DE LA CRUZ is recovering from a vicious attack he sustained while visiting family in NEW YORK last week. The baseball bat attack, which made headlines in NEW YORK and BOSTON papers last week, put CRUZ in the hospital unconscious and in danger of losing sight in one eye. DE LA CRUZ will also need reconstructive surgery for his face and jaw. 

Arrest Made

Now, NEW YORK CITY police have charged a 20-year-old NEW YORK man with the savage caught-on-video baseball bat beating. GAVIN SCOTT, 20, turned himself in last night, NYPD Det. JOSEPH CAVITOLO said this morning.

The attack in the UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS/FORDHAM area of the BRONX at about 3:30a SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 14th, outside his children's home, was caught on videotape, which showed a man appear from nowhere attacking DE LA CRUZ with a bat, and the attacker and another man robbing DE LA CRUZ's wallet, chain, and cell phone.
