The DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA COURT OF APPEALS rules that former AMERICAN UNIVERSITY noncommercial WAMU/WASHINGTON Exec. Dir. SUSAN CLAMPITT's defamation suit against the school and its then-president may continue.
The WASHINGTON POST reports that the court reversed a SUPERIOR COURT ruling throwing out CLAMPITT's suit against A.U. and former President BENJAMIN LADNER, who was quoted after CLAMPITT's firing as citing a pattern of budget deficits as one reason for CLAMPITT's 2003 firing. CLAMPITT sued for breach of contract, interference with contract, defamation and other claims; the court is allowing the defamation case to proceed.
