The U.K.'s GLOBAL RADIO will cut back on local news and has inked a two year deal for UBC MEDIA to provide traffic and travel reports for its 71 stations, reports the GUARDIAN. The UBC deal is effective NOVEMBER 17 and expands UBC's service to the stations GLOBAL acquired from GCAP MEDIA; GLOBAL's own stations have already been carrying UBC traffic reports.
The move, which includes the elimination of local news between 11a and 3p in favor of one-minute hourly national network news from the company's LONDON studios, is expected to cause the transfer or layoff of 25 employees.
