Staff cuts -- but not format changes -- are impacting CBS RADIO's TAMPA cluster. Chief among them are changes at Smooth Jazz WSTJ/TAMPA, where PD ROSS BLOCK exits, as well as certain members of the station's air staff.
CBS/TAMPA SVP/Market Manager ED KRAMPF tells ALL ACCESS that they will be bringing in some BROADCAST ARCHITECTURE programming, most notably DAVE KOZ, MIRANDA, and RAMSEY LEWIS, along with selected weekend programs. KRAMPF described the moves as a way to "enhance" the station's programming. "At the end to the day the core audience wants to hear the Smooth Jazz format as they have expectations for it, and BROADCAST ARCHITECTURE delivers on that."
As far as other staff cuts, KRAMPF added, "ROSS was the only name of note. The rest were support staff and some traffic folks. This is more of a reorganization and restructuring. We have some operational changes coming as well that involve a positive step for (Country WQYK OM) MIKE CULOTTA.
"Many of the things we are doing are designed to make the cluster function better. The concept is to take the talented folks in operations, programming, marketing, sales and a whole new digital department, and leverage their talent and skills for more success. CBS is very product-focused and these changes will enhance our product, and allow us to compete and win bigger."
