The CINCINNATI ENQUIRER's JOHN KIESEWETTER reports that CLEAR CHANNEL Talk BILL CUNNINGHAM is back at odds with the JOHN MCCAIN campaign, but is advising conservative listeners to "hold their nose and vote for MCCAIN -– not because MCCAIN will be another RONALD REAGAN, but because OBAMA will be another JIMMY CARTER." CUNNINGHAM, whose performance at a MCCAIN rally stressing OBAMA's middle name (HUSSEIN) drew repudiation by MCCAIN earlier this year, proposed a barnstorming tour of battleground state OHIO with MCCAIN joined by SEAN HANNITY and other conservatives, much like President BUSH did in 2004, but was rejected by the MCCAIN campaign.
"He refuses to work with the people who put BUSH over the top in 2004. We energized the Republican base the weekend before election day," said CUNNINGHAM of the candidate, whose campaign he described as "the worst Republican campaign in 12 years."
