Condolences to family and friends of former VOICE OF AMERICA Dir. and CORPORATION FOR PUBLIC BROADCASTING Pres. HENRY LOOMIS, who died NOVEMBER 2nd in JACKSONVILLE of complications from Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and Pick's diseases, according to the NEW YORK TIMES.
LOOMIS, a physicist, was named to lead the VOA by President EISENHOWER in 1958 and served through 1965, when he left in a dispute with the JOHNSON administration over reporting on the VIETNAM war. LOOMIS headed CPB in 1972-78.
