The CRTC turns thumbs down on NEWCAP's proposal to move its Country CKKY-A (KEY83)/WAINWRIGHT, AB to FM at 101.9. The denial arose from NEWCAP's intention to co-locate the antenna with its Classic Hits CKWY (WAYNE FM)/WAINWRIGHT on a tower 30 km northeast of WAINWRIGHT, effectively moving CKKY into the LLOYDMINSTER market 70 km northeast of WAINWRIGHT.
Also rejected by the agency was DENNIS M. DYCK Contemporary Christian CJJC (100.5 THE ROCK)/YORKTON, SK's proposed move from 100.5 FM to 98.5 FM and power increase from LPFM status to a full Class B facility (44.79 watts to 50,000 watts). The CRTC said that the station had not demonstrated a need to increase its service area, only a desire to expand. The station had previously been turned down for an expansion via an additional transmitter at MELVILLE, SK.
