ESPN RADIO is denying a CRAIN'S NEW YORK BUSINESS report that it is looking to buy or lease Rock WRXP/NEW YORK from EMMIS COMMUNICATIONS to put its Sports WEPN-A (1050 ESPN) on the FM dial. CRAIN'S has reported the ESPN-EMMIS rumor in the past and quotes an "industry insider" as saying that "The economy has JEFF SMULYAN reconsidering his price and [a deal] seems to be back on the table."
WEPN GM TIM MCCARTHY told CRAIN'S, "We’re looking at a lot of possibilities to extend our brand, and at one time [101.9 FM] was one of them, but there’s nothing on the table right now."
