As a political committee linked with CLEAR CHANNEL RADIO gets ready to start a petition drive to remove TOLEDO Mayor CARTY FINKBEINER from office, the TROY NEFF Show on CLEAR CHANNEL Sports WCWA-A may have been a victim of that political campaign, reports THE TOLEDO BLADE. NEFF said yesterday he believes ANDY STUART, GM of CLEAR CHANNEL RADIO's five stations in TOLEDO, canceled his show in part because he continued to invite FINKBEINER on as a guest.
"The major reason they canceled the show was because of my relationship to politicians that I had on, first and foremost the mayor, and [LUCAS COUNTY Commissioner] BEN KONOP and various council members. I gave them an outlet," NEFF said.
STUART is a member of the Take Back TOLEDO committee that announced it aims to place a mayoral recall referendum on the SEPTEMBER 15th ballot.
WCWA's sister station, News/Talk WSPD-A, is a harsh critic of FINKBEINER and has become a forum for the recall effort, while banning the mayor as a guest over a dispute from 2006.
STUART declined to respond to NEFF's claims.
"I wish I could comment on that, but we just do not as a policy comment on our programming decisions," STUART said. He added later, "I don't care what TROY NEFF thinks or says."
