Tough economic times continue to have radio making tough business decisions -- and now ALL ACCESS has obtained a letter sent to the CLEAR CHANNEL/ST. LOUIS staff from Pres./Market Manager DENNIS W. LAMME, outlining a divorce between the ST. LOUIS RAMS and KLOU.
In it, LAMME wrote, "We are proud of our longstanding relationship with the NFL and the ST. LOUIS RAMS organization and wished to continue that relationship moving forward. That said, in this volatile and challenging marketplace, we asked that the RAMS, our partners, work closely with us to develop plans that were monetarily sound for both parties.
I presented our well thought out plan with alternatives benefiting all parties. This plan would have extended the CLEAR CHANNEL RADIO/ST. LOUIS and KLOU's relationship with the ST. LOUIS RAMS for an additional two years.
Upon review, the needs of the ST. LOUIS RAMS did not meet the needs of CLEAR CHANNEL RADIO/ST. LOUIS. After nine years, CLEAR CHANNEL RADIO/ST. LOUIS will terminate its relationship with the ST. LOUIS RAMS at the end of this year."
Suprise Move
It didn't take long for the team to find a new home as BONNEVILLE/ST. LOUIS RADIO GROUP quickly announced they entered into a two-year deal with the ST. LOUIS RAMS for broadcast radio rights for the NFL franchise in 2009 and 2010.
The RAMS will be broadcast on their new FM sports format station, WMVN (SPORTS/TALK 101.1). The new radio station is set to debut on JANUARY 1, 2009, when the former MOViN 101.1 FM signal will assume the local broadcast affiliation for the ESPN radio network in ST. LOUIS.
