GRAMMY-winning jazz musician FREDDIE HUBBARD died earlier TODAY (MONDAY, DEC. 29th) at age 70. The influential trumpet player had been hospitalized after suffering a heart attack last month.
HUBBARD achieved his biggest success with for "hard bop" trumpet style heard on his 1960s work, most notably ORNETTE COLEMAN's "Free Jazz" and JOHN COLTRANE's "Ascension." Despite being plagued with health issues, HUBBARD continued to perform until just a few months ago. His last concert was in JUNE in NEW YORK at a party celebrating the release of his final album.
