The TENNESSEAN is reporting today (1/9) that Country legend MERLE HAGGARD is suing NASHVILLE environmentalist group the GREEN TRAIN and its founder, BOB WOLF, for "the alleged unauthorized use of HAGGARD's name to raise contributions for the organization."
HAGGARD donated $20,000 to the organization and appeared last JUNE at at luncheon at the PALM RESTAURANT in NASHVILLE, but the lawsuit claims "he did not agree to support the GREEN TRAIN in any other fashion." According to the filing, the defendant forged HAGGARD's name on letters to DOLLY PARTON, VINCE GILL, AMY GRANT and JEWEL, along with items sold on eBAY and in nightclubs.
HAGGARD seeks unspecified damages, an injunction preventing further use of his name and a restraining order prohibiting the defendants from keeping illegal contributions without complete disclosure to donors.
