The DES MOINES REGISTER is reporting that CLEAR CHANNEL Sports KXNO-A/DES MOINES accidentally aired what it describes as a "profane argument" in which host MARTY TIRRELL used at least 12 "f-bombs." The 75-second argument aired when a mic was left open while commercials and promos aired.
TIRRELL was heard arguing with morning host LARRY COTLAR over media credentials for the previous week's state high school boys' basketball tournament before an NCAA tournament preview show, with TIRRELL profanely telling COTLAR to get out of the studio, then threatening that he would "f---ing clock you." The paper also said that TIRRELL yelled at COTLAR that "you caused a f---ing hornet's nest. You're jealous of us," and claimed that COTLAR "embarrassed CLEAR CHANNEL," to which COTLAR noted, "You used something that's not yours and I embarrassed CLEAR CHANNEL?"
TIRRELL refused comment to the REGISTER FRIDAY, saying only that "I get along with LARRY fine" and referring other questions to VP/Market Manager JOEL McCREA.
And on MONDAY, neither COTLAR nor TIRRELL's show aired on KXNO, with FOX SPORTS RADIO and DAN PATRICK's FSR/THE CONTENT FACTORY show airing in its place. The REGISTER reported late MONDAY that three unnamed employees had been suspended after the incident.
