Another jury trial has ruled in favor of plaintiffs GOLD COAST RADIO, owner of Regional Mexican KMLA (LA M 103.7)/OXNARD-VENTURA, and promoter UNIVERSO MUSICAL against LAZER BROADCASTING (owner of KXLM (RADIO LAZER) in a repeat of a case involving LAZER's alleged intentional interference with GOLD COAST's customers, advertisers and artists. A previous jury verdict of $553,000 last NOVEMBER was set aside by a VENTURA COUNTY judge as unsupported by the evidence, resulting in a new trial that ended with an AUGUST 28th verdict awarding the plaintiffs $99,800 to cover losses from a 2007 concert.
The VENTURA COUNTY STAR reports that the case centered on a dispute over whether LAZER induced the booking agent to cancel the headliner about 10 days before it was to take place, ending up keeping ticket sales to about 500. LAZER attorney GREGORY RAMIREZ told the STAR that he will file next week to have the new verdict set aside as well and dismissed.
