PENNSYLVANIA RADIOWERKS Talk WWGE-A (THE EDGE)/LORETTO-JOHNSTOWN, PA is fighting a municipal tax being levied on its tower, reports the JOHNSTOWN TRIBUNE DEMOCRAT. ALLEGHENY TOWNSHIP attempted to seize and sell the tower at a delinquent tax sale, but the station has gone to court to halt the sale and obtained an order FRIDAY (9/11) to block the city's actions. The station contends that the tower qualifies as a "tool of the trade" and should therefore be exempt.
The station's tower, on land leased from ST. FRANCIS UNIVERSITY, has been at the location since 1963, but was only taxed starting in 2004. The station paid its 2007 tax bill under protest.
