Locally-supported PECONIC PUBLIC BROADCASTING has submitted a bid of over $2 million for noncommercial WLIU/SOUTHHAMPTON, LONG ISLAND, reports the EAST HAMPTON STAR. The bid, with $1.3 million in cash and $1 million in support of LONG ISLAND UNIVERSITY campus station WCWP/BROOKVILLE plus about $400,000 in costs of operation before closing, is one of at least three submitted for the station, which LIU has put on the block.
The STAR reports that public radio giant WNYC/NEW YORK considered a bid, but withdrew in favor of PECONIC's local bid. A winning bid may be selected as soon as OCTOBER 12th, when the college board meets.
