Council Defers Action On Nomination Of WIBW's Pierce To City Panel

MORRIS COMMUNICATIONS Talk WIBW-A/TOPEKA midday co-host RAUBIN PIERCE's appointment to the TOPEKA PLANNING COMMISSION was tabled by the City Council on TUESDAY night amidst controversy over whether the host should be named to the panel. 

PIERCE is often critical of the city's management, leading some to oppose his nomination; such appointments are normally rubber-stamped by the Council, but the Council voted at TUESDAY's meeting 5-4 to defer action on PIERCE.

Crosstown CBS affiliate WIBW-TV reports that Councilperson KAREN HILLER said that she did not believe PIERCE was the right person at the right time, while PIERCE has said that he believes the "odds are stacked" against him and Councilperson JEFF PREISNER is working to get the votes to block the nomination.
