The enterprising folks at CBS RADIO/DETROIT have spun the format wheel at Smooth Jazz WVMV (V98.7) ... and apparently, they want to keep their listeners guessing all weekend.
After playing SADE's "Smooth Operator" at 5p ET, WVMV seemed to flip to Classic Rock. The move would be a bit of a surprise, as some sources were predicting a "NOW"-ish Top 40 format. But WVMV's website was taken down -- while the station still sounded like it was in stunting mode.
Lo and behold, a new website popped up, 987takeover.com, with a very familiar logo not unlike new CBS Top 40s NOW and AMP. The splash page -- of a bulletin board with tacks targeting area points of interest, where to get a free T-shirt and a chance to win $1,000 -- also recommends viewers follow them on TWITTER. A link to a YOUTUBE video promises all will be revealed on MONDAY at 8a.
Leading up to the flip, the station announced that the Smooth Jazz format would be moving to an HD-2 channel.
