Gospel star MARVIN SAPP's contribution to ROBERT S. WOMACK's drive to save the Urban format at bankrupt WJNZ-A/GRAND RAPIDS has been returned to the performer, reports the GRAND RAPIDS PRESS. WOMACK told the paper that he has returned the $150,000 donated by SAPP and replaced it with funds from his own pocket and other investors because SAPP's money came with format strings attached and asked for a 75% interest for a 50% investment.
SAPP and his wife MALINDA outlined a "more family-friendly" format when they announced their donation last week. "We don't believe that we should be talking about the format unless we win in court," said WOMACK.
The station was sold from bankruptcy to HOLY FAMILY RADIO, and WOMACK filed an objection with the court alleging irregularities in the bidding process. A hearing is now scheduled for OCTOBER 19th.
