EDDIE EDWARDS, the veteran broadcaster who responded to the recent sale by SHERIDAN BROADCASTING of its three PITTSBURGH Urban broadcast properties by offering to purchase at least one facility to serve the African-American community in the STEEL CITY, has changed his mind.
EDWARDS announced last month that he planned to purchase WPYT-A for $500,000 and create a Talk format aimed at the African-American community. This move was designed to help fill the gap left by the former WAMO, whose new owners plan to convert it to CATHOLIC programming later this year.
His son, EDDIE EDWARDS JR., an attorney with BURNS, WHITE & HICKTON, announced that EDWARDS SR. had withdrawn his application primarily due to health reasons. He has since been hospitalized and is currently under a doctor’s care.
