UNIVERSITY OF WATERLOO campus station CKMS (100.3 SOUND FM)/WATERLOO, ON is back on its regular schedule on a temporary basis while the school contemplates shutting the operation down.
The station lost its student funding in SEPTEMBER following a FEBRUARY vote by students that ended a C$5.50 student fee. An attempt to reinstate a C$2.50 fee was voted down in OCTOBER, and the school took regular student programming off the air on FRIDAY and put the BBC WORLD SERVICE feed on the air while deciding whether to close the station for good.
The student programming is back TODAY and will continue through DECEMBER 4th, when the station will shut down at least on a temporary basis; a public meeting with the school board is scheduled in two weeks to discuss the options, which might include turning the programming over to a community operation.
