The previously-reported rumors (NET NEWS 10/19) have become reality at noncommercial WMFE-F/ORLANDO, which will move all of its Classical programming to its HD-2 channel and will go all News-Talk as of FRIDAY (11/20) at 4p.
Pres./CEO JOSE A. FAJARDO said in a press release, "With the availability of HD Radio technology, we can now offer listeners the best of both worlds -- news and information and classical music -- 24/7. We are excited about the change and the opportunities it will bring to WMFE and CENTRAL FLORIDA." FAJARDO also told the ORLANDO SENTINEL, "We have seen a gradual decrease in the classical music listening audience while the audience for news has been on a substantial increase. With the technology of HD Radio, we saw the best of providing both worlds."
Among the national shows being added to the WMFE schedule are THE DIANE REHM SHOW, HERE AND NOW, TALK OF THE NATION, ON POINT, ON THE MEDIA and MARKETPLACE MONEY.
