EMMIS Talk WIBC/INDIANAPOLIS host GREG GARRISON is urging listeners to get vaccinated against the H1N1 "swine flu" virus after the death of his son-in-law from the disease. PETE BARAJAS died SATURDAY at the age of 37 after a month-long illness; he and his wife, GARRISON's daughter, were expecting the couple's third child in JANUARY.
GARRISON told ABC affiliate WRTV (TV), "H1N1 is a very opportunistic disease if people have a marker, as in my son-in-law with a history of bronchial problems as a kid, and me, I've had pneumonia a half-dozen times in my life. Whenever I can find a shot I'm going to take one, though I'll be 62 in JANUARY."
