The financier who backed Internet sports radio start-up CHICAGO SPORTS WEBIO and later got charged with running a $12 million Ponzi scheme is changing his plea in the case against him to guilty, his lawyer announced TUESDAY (12/1).
DAVID HERNANDEZ had initially pleaded not guilty to four counts of mail fraud after being caught as a fugitive in JUNE, but attorney JOHN MEYER told the CHICAGO SUN-TIMES that HERNANDEZ will plead guilty at a JANUARY hearing.
CHICAGO SPORTS WEBIO, the online Sports/Talk station launched last year by former CBS RADIO Sports WSCR-A (670 THE SCORE)/CHICAGO host MIKE NORTH, briefly operated with a lineup of prominent former local Sports/Talkers before the operation folded due to nonpayment of salaries.
