He writes, "As we enter the holiday season, we are concluding a difficult and challenging year, not only for radio, but for all types of businesses. We need to congratulate one another for our individual perseverance and our collective effort to prevail against powerful obstacles. For too many, it was a year that disrupted and redefined careers. That’s the human price of an economic upheaval that we hope never to experience again."

"Now it is time to look forward," SMYTH continues. "2010 promises to be another step into the reality that I refer to as the 'new normal.' Not a return to business as it was, but a year in which to make new beginnings and develop new approaches to a substantially changed marketplace."
