What's happening at COX RADIO Alternative WDYL (Y101)/RICHMOND? Following last THURSDAY's switch at sister Hot AC WMXB (MIX 103.7) to "THE NEW 103.7 THE RIVER, RICHMOND’S BEST ALTERNATIVE (NET NEWS 4/22), Y101's website has been directing listeners to the "new station in town."
WDYL is currently running jockless. Is the format wheel about to spin at Y101? When contacted by ALL ACCESS, COX/RICHMOND VP/GM BOB WILLOUGHBY had no comment.
WILLOUGHBY did want to mention the reason for WMXB's change to THE RIVER was because, "THE JAMES RIVER is a big part of the city’s identity. THE RIVER is a hip AC targeted to listeners in their 30s and 40s. It’s an alternative to boring cookie-cutter AC's, not an Alt-Rock station. This is one of the directions the AC format is evolving towards."
