Timing is everything, and ALL ACCESS contributor PAIGE NEINABER -- he of C.P.R. fame -- found the need and plugged in a wild APRIL FOOLS stunt for Top 40 KDOG/MANKATO, MN -- going All Chinese Classic Hits this past weekend, only to come out the other side as Classic Hits.
PAIGE met with KDOG, and they loved the idea. On FRIDAY (3/31) at 5 all the jocks at the station were called to a meeting and at 5:30, JON LINDER, the owner of the company took to the air and announced that after the biggest audience research project in MINNESOTA history, "the numbers are back, and they don't lie: The overwhelming musical choice is Chinese music."
The format debuted. All Chinese music. They even got listener testimonials. Some of the on-air liners included: "The musical revolution has arrived 'Kung Pao 96.7'," "The home for good times and classic Chinese hits "'Kung Pao 96.7'," "Kung Wow? No! 'Kung PAO! 96.7'."
Today (4/3) at 7:30a (CT), LINDER returned to the studio, apologized and said that he had read the numbers upside down. It was "Classic Hits" not "Chinese Classic Hits" and they launched into THE NEW KDOG under OM MIKE PARRY. All air talents remain in place, but we understand they're already complaining about "still being hungry."
