Peconic Public Broadcasting Gets Another Extension For WLIU Closing

PECONIC PUBLIC BROADCASTING has gotten another extension of time to come up with the remaining funds it needs it needs to purchase the license and equipment of noncommercial WLIU/SOUTHAMPTON, LONG ISLAND, NY from LONG ISLAND UNIVERSITY.
The EAST HAMPTON PRESS reports that the deadline was extended until SEPTEMBER 28th after receiving further donations, including $50,000 from the foundation of billionaire and liberal political backer GEORGE SOROS.
PPB has been attempting to raise the money to buy the station to keep it as a locally-programmed public radio station for the HAMPTONS area. It previously received an extension of the deadline for making its payment from JUNE 30th to AUGUST 31st, and then again to this past FRIDAY (9/3), and needs to pay over $600,000 to close on the station.
