UNIVERSAL MUSIC GROUP (UMG)/NASHVILLE has hired music journalist and pop culture commentator BEVERLY KEEL as SVP/Media & Artist Relations. She replaces JASON OWEN, who exited late last month (NET NEWS 8/25).
KEEL previously worked as a professor at MIDDLE TENNESSEE STATE UNIVERSITY in MURFREESBORO, TN in the Department of Recording Industry and will continue her affiliation with the university. She also spent two years as the celebrity columnist for the TENNESSEAN, where she won the CHARLIE LAMB AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE in Country music journalism.
In her position at UMG, KEEL will be developing and implementing extensive media campaigns for their roster of artists, including SUGARLAND, JAMEY JOHNSON, BILLY CURRINGTON, LEE ANN WOMACK, JULIANNE HOUGH, GEORGE STRAIT, GARY ALLAN, RANDY ROGERS BAND, EASTON CORBIN and LAURA BELL BUNDY, among others.
She will report to UMG/NASHVILLE Chairman/CEO LUKE LEWIS.
LEWIS said: “We are delighted to welcome someone of BEVERLY’s creative caliber to the UNIVERSAL MUSIC family. Her specific expertise in media, content creation and deep experience across a broad range of disciplines make BEVERLY ideally suited to spearhead a wide range of communications activities that will help propel our artists and brands forward.”
KEEL added: “I am thrilled to be joining LUKE and the UNIVERSAL MUSIC team. With a truly spirited and entrepreneurial culture, a progressive approach to the digital landscape and a roster that is second to none, UNIVERSAL MUSIC GROUP/NASHVILLE is uniquely positioned to provide the kind of approach that artists are looking for right now. I look forward to helping to build on their legacy of success.”
