An interim injunction will let CHSC-A/TORONTO stay on the air while the federal court of appeal decides if it will allow an appeal of its license quashing, reports the ST. CATHERINE STANDARD. On July 30th, The CRTC denied an application to renew the broadcasting licence, alleging that station owner PELLPROPCO INC. repeatedly showed noncompliance and disregard for its regulatory obligations.
The commission received complaints CHSC had changed its programming to serve TORONTO's Italian-speaking community rather than the local market it's licensed to serve, which led to a lack of "locally relevant English-language news programming on weekends."
It initially ordered the licensee to cease broadcasting at the end of the AUG. 31st broadcasting day.
