Platinum Before The First Air Guitar Chord Is Played

The RIAA has officially awarded SOUNDGARDEN Platinum status for its new greatest hits CD, "Telephantasm," on the first day of its release, WIRED reports. Why? Because ACTIVISION BLIZZARD bought a million copies to bundle it with GUITAR HERO: WARRIORS OF ROCK, which hits retail next TUESDAY, OCTOBER 5th.

"These 1 million units, purchased by ACTIVISION, are non-returnable and represent official sales of the album," RIAA Director KATE HAROLD said in a press release. "I anticipate we'll be seeing more and more of these types of partnerships and cross-pollination of industries which benefit everyone, especially music fans."

All the tracks on "Telephantasm" can be downloaded as playable game tracks for $18.
