ALPHA BROADCASTING Triple A KINK/PORTLAND, OR, is calling upon listeners to help fill two 50-foot SAFEWAY trucks with gently used coats, sweaters, hats, gloves, toiletries, duffle bags, socks, supplies for children and babies during the annual TRUCKLOAD OF COATS event this FRIDAY, OCTOBER 22nd.
The station will be broadcasting live and collecting donated items at two SAFEWAY locations. All donations will be distributed by TRANSITION PROJECTS INC, whose mission is to serve people's basic needs as they transition from homelessness to housing. Each year the organization serves more than 9,000 people in the PORTLAND area, sheltering nearly 300 people every day and providing a menu of services to homeless and low-income persons.
Locally owned COLUMBIA SPORTSWEAR will also join in on the campaign again this year, donating new coats from their warehouse as well as bringing along the results of an in-house coat collection drive conducted by its staff.
"We know how cold and wet the winters get around here and all of us have coats and other items that just hang in the closet unused," said KINK Program Director CHRIS MAYS. "This is the perfect time to help us fill the trucks and help PORTLAND’s homeless population, which continues to grow each year."
