An article at the DAILY BEAST on former BUSH administration Sr. Advisor and Deputy Chief of Staff KARL ROVE charges that the WHITE HOUSE directed the "blackballing" of some commentators from radio shows during ROVE's tenure.
Author MATT LATIMER, former chief speechwriter for DONALD RUMSFELD and deputy director of speechwriting for President BUSH, wrote that he uncovered several examples of the BUSH administration's influence on broadcasters during the writing of his book "Speechless: Tales of a WHITE HOUSE Survivor," saying that "(a) prominent national radio host told me that ROVE’s operation used petty tactics, such as withdrawing WHITE HOUSE invitations from commentators who said things that displeased them.
A radio executive said the BUSH WHITE HOUSE told them explicitly who they were expected to blackball from their airwaves. A well-known FOX NEWS personality said that the BUSH-ROVE influence was so strong at the network that he is constantly on guard to conceal his differences with them."
