Congratulations to everyone at BIG MACHINE RECORDS/NASHVILLE as their star TAYLOR SWIFT’s new album, “Speak Now,” scanned a whopping 1,047,000 units in its first week of sales since its OCTOBER 25th release, according to numbers from SOUNDSCAN.
TAYLOR’s #1 debut on the Top 200 is the biggest album debut since Rapper 50 CENT sold 1,141,000 copies of “The Massacre” in MARCH 2005.
Rapper LIL WAYNE was the last artist to crack the million mark in JUNE 2008 with “Tha Carter III” selling 1,006,000 in its first week of release.
"Speak Now" accounted for 18% of total albums sold this week, setting a new record for percentage of total sales in a single week. One out of every five CDs or download sales this week was TAYLOR's album.
Congrats are also in order for MERCURY/NASHVILLE duo SUGARLAND, who came in at #2 on the Top 200 selling over 88,000 copies of their latest album, "The Incredible Machine." Since its OCTOBER 19th release they have scanned over 252,000 units.
