While a station flipping to all-holiday music in NOVEMBER is about as uncommon as falling autumn leaves in a forest, there's a dollop of intrigue with the FRIDAY (11/19) flip of COX heritage Rock WHDR (93ROCK)/MIAMI.
Its website, which has scrubbed any mention of its on-air staff, announces that "CHRISTMAS Has Come Early ... We're On Holiday ... A Better Party Begins Soon!"
COX Urban AC WHQT (HOT 105.5)/MIAMI PD PHIL MICHAELS-TRUEBA seems to have some inside info, posting on his FACEBOOK page, "To my colleagues and friends at 93ROCK, you worked the hardest without the results you deserved. I wish you all nothing but the best in your future endeavors. You're a bunch of talented and passionate people. Unfortunately, this chapter has come to an end, but I know you're going to be writing many new ones in your journey of life. Much love to you all. A toast to you! Salud."
All of the stations that have flipped to Holiday music can be found here.
MIA's Rhythmic AC Format Is MIA
Also last FRIDAY in MIAMI, CLEAR CHANNEL Rhythmic AC WMIA launched its own CHRISTMAS music feature by playing the best variety of holiday music effective last FRIDAY evening through DECEMBER 25th.
"For the first time MIAMI has a 'Feel Good CHRISTMAS' Station," PD RAY HERNANDEZ said. "Going to the malls, in the office, planning your holiday gift list, CHRISTMAS music just makes you feel good! It’s the start of a new tradition in Miami."
The station will also launch a $10,000 CHRISTMAS cash giveaway beginning on NOVEMBER 29th. For details and the Song of the Day calendar, visit www.939mia.com.
