CUMULUS Triple A WQKL/ANN ARBOR, MI, is set for its annual ROCKIN’ FOR THE HUNGRY campaign beginning this WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 1st and running through SUNDAY, DECEMBER 5th. This year the station has partnered with KROGER food stores, and the food and funds that will be gathered go to support FOOD GATHERERS’ network of emergency food pantries and meal sites.
"Each year, we’re eager to lend a helping hand to our neighbors in need," said WQKL PD CHRIS AMMEL. "Our goal is to simply do our part and help FOOD GATHERERS fight hunger here in WASHTENAW COUNTY."
FOOD GATHERERS Pres./CEO EILEEN SPRING said, "Gifts from ROCKIN’ help us provide food to our partners and the hungry people they serve through the winter months. Food drive donations are down 33% compared to last year and we are hoping that with the support of our community, we can help close that gap."
This year the goal is to raise 200 tons of food and donations of high protein, canned and dry goods. More than 43,900 people -- including more than 14,000 children and 6,500 seniors -- receive emergency food each year through FOOD GATHERERS. They are also hoping for financial contributions.
