CLEAR CHANNEL Smooth Jazz KYOT/PHOENIX has moved to an AC/Smooth Jazz hybrid and from predominantly instrumental to predominantly vocal. The move, said President and Market Manager JEFF ENGLAND, is because the station is "evolving to better serve our mission of providing unique entertainment for more VALLEY listeners."
Director of Programming and Operations SMOKEY RIVERS added, "Since its inception in 1994, 95.5 KYOT has been innovative in creating a popular blend of instrumental and vocal music. The synchronicity of COYOTE music and the VALLEY's good life has earned it mainstay status among PHOENIX radio stations.
"As tastes and demographics evolved, so did KYOT, introducing artists like NORAH JONES, BEYONCE, JOHN MAYER and ALICIA KEYS into its repertoire of superstar artists. Today's audience is hearing and endorsing a growing concentration of vocals in the COYOTE mix. The emerging young adult listener prefers a predominately vocal-driven smooth music station. So, we are evolving again to meet that demand.
"The formula is simple. We will play immensely popular songs that evoke strong emotional bonds. We will respect our instrumental roots by showcasing the all-time most popular smooth jazz tracks in the mix each hour. Since the balance of music will lean toward songs with words, and to be fair to our many friends of jazz who have supported us through the years, we are removing the word jazz from our station descriptor. If you need a name for it, it's called Smooth Adult Contemporary. Preserving the mood, enhancing the music. That's what we're up to with the New 95.5 KYOT. The smoothest place on your radio.
"We are continuing our long relationship with BROADCAST ARCHITECTURE as a major affiliate of the newly-formed Smooth AC Network."
