The CRTC has shot down 9202-1617 QUEBEC INC.'s application to add a transmitter at MONT STE-CLAIRE, QC for its French Hot AC CKGS (KOOL RADIO 105.5)/SAGUENAY. The new transmitter would have served the CHICOUTIMI and JONQUIERE areas and was pitched as potentially helping CKGS' "precarious financial situation," but the Commission noted that the station would end up competing with other stations also in difficult financial situations in the additional markets.
The Commission did, however, approve PERTH FM RADIO INC.'s application to increase the power of Soft AC CHLK (LAKE 88.1)/PERTH, ON from 1,350 to 5,400 watts maximum ERP at 91.5 meters above average terrain. The change is intended to address reception complaints in LANARK, WESTPORT, MCDONALDS CORNERS, MABERLY, ELGIN, and TOLEDO, ON.
And the agency set a hearing date of FEBRUARY 11th in GATINEAU, QC for several applications for new FMs. To be considered at the hearing are applications by CENTRE WELLINGTON COMMUNITY RADIO INC. at ELORA and FERGUS, ON; COCHRANE CHRISTIAN RADIO and COCHRANE POLAR BEAR RADIO CLUB for COCHRANE, ON; GORDON PETERS for THAMESVILLE, ON; HALIBURTON BROADCASTING GROUP for KEMPTVILLE, ON; SUGAR CANE COMMUNITY DIVERSITY ASSOCIATION for WILLIAMS LAKE, BC; and ROSSLAND RADIO COOPERATIVE for ROSSLAND, BC. Also to be considered are the sale applications for French Oldies CKRS (FM98)/CHICOUTIMI-SAGUENAY, QC (from 7545398 CANADA INC. to RADIO SAGUENAY INC.); Oldies CJCS-A and AC CHGK (107.7 MIX FM)/STRATFORD, ON (from RAEDIO INC. to HALIBURTON); and Classic Hits CFSF/STURGEON FALLS, ON (from JOCO COMMUNICATIONS to HALIBURTON).
