MICHAEL JACKSON's long-awaited posthumous album may not have reached sky-high sale expectations in the U.S. -- its debut finished third behind new releases from TAYLOR SWIFT and SUSAN BOYLE -- but it was an undeniable hit on a global scale. BLOOMBERG reports that "MICHAEL" sold over 3 million copies worldwide.
According to NIELSEN SOUNDSCAN, JACKSON's album sold 228,000 copies in the U.S. in its first week. However, it did debut at #1 in GERMANY, ITALY, SWEDEN and THE NETHERLANDS -- and hit the Top 5 in the UNITED KINGDOM, JAPAN, FRANCE, BELGIUM and DENMARK.
