UNIVISION RADIO FLORIDA and the MICCOSUKEE TRIBE OF INDIANS OF FLORIDA/MICCOSUKEE RESORT AND GAMING, INC. have reached a tentative settlement of UNIVISION's lawsuit over a mishap that took one of the towers of Spanish Talk WQBA-A/MIAMI down.
UNIVISION sued the tribe on APRIL 21st (NET NEWS 4/28) after an APRIL 22nd incident in which someone was clearing trees on the tribe's property and encroached on the WQBA site, and while clearing that land without permission, pulled out guy wires that held the tower in place, toppling and destroying the tower.
The tribe paid $60,000 to UNIVISION but the radio company sued for complete restitution; the parties filed last week for an extension of time in the case, saying that they had reached a settlement after a court order on AUGUST 12th specified TODAY (8/22) as a deadline for submitting settlement pleadings and that they need an additional 21 days to prepare and file the pleadings.
