READING ROYALS ECHL minor league hockey will return to CITADEL Sports WIOV-A (ESPN RADIO 1240 AM)/READING, PA this season. The ROYALS aired on the station in 2001-08 before moving to crosstown CLEAR CHANNEL Oldies WRAW-A (TRUE OLDIES)/READING and Adult Standards WLAN-A/LANCASTER in 2008. MARK THOMPSON continues as play-by-play voice of the TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS and BOSTON BRUINS affiliate, with PAT RICHARDS back for analysis on home games.
"We're thrilled to have our game night broadcasts and coach's show back on ESPN RADIO 1240 AM," said ROYALS GM MARK WALLACE. "We've been extremely fortunate to have had great support in the READING-area radio broadcast community during the team's entire ten year history. We do believe, however, that it's important to have ROYALS' broadcasts on the local sports station, and ESPN RADIO 1240 AM provides the type of geographic reach that will make our on-air radio broadcast presentation accessible to as many fans as is possible."
PD RICH CREEGER said, "We're truly excited to rejoin forces with the ROYALS. We understand how important the team is to the local sports community, and we intend to work with the ROYALS to pursue a number of creative avenues to ensure that fans have full and complete radio coverage of the team this season."
Included in the deal is the weekly "ROYALS RADIO RECON" coach's show for TUESDAY nights and a daily "ROYALS RECAP" 30-second feature.
