Radio stations in the path of HURRICANE IRENE are bracing for the worst and preparing to do what they can to keep the public informed. In NEW BEDFORD, MA, HALL COMMUNICATIONS Country WCTK (CAT COUNTRY)/PROVIDENCE-NEW BEDFORD is airing continuous live coverage. The station has contacted local officials to set up an "Information pipeline" and the station is fully staffed throughout the weekend.
"WCTK is on a 500-foot tower in NEW BEDFORD behind the hurricane barrier," PD BOB WALKER said. "Our signal reaches the entire coastline, from BLOCK ISLAND to CAPE COD. Generators at the tower and PROVIDENCE studios were fueled and tested today."
In NEW JERSEY, TOWNSQUARE MEDIA Talk WKXW (NEW JERSEY 101.5)/TRENTON is simulcasting its continuing hurricane coverage on sister Sports WENJ-F (97.3 ESPN)/MILLVILLE-ATLANTIC CITY to reach the southernmost areas of the state. WENJ, which simulcasted NEW JERSEY 101.5 before flipping to its present format, picked up the 101.5 simulcast at 2p (ET) SATURDAY.
The six CLEAR CHANNEL stations in the SALISBURY-OCEAN CITY area are simulcasting live continuous hurricane coverage of CBS affiliate WBOC-TV/SALISBURY. The stations are allowing any DELMARVA radio station to rebroadcast WBOC-TV's coverage as well.
GREATER MEDIA radio stations in NEW JERSEY, NORTH CAROLINA, MASSACHUSETTS and PHILADELPHIA are prepared and ready for HURRICANE IRENE. The radio properties are providing complete on-air coverage, as well posting news and weather updates on the station websites, TWITTER and FACEBOOK.
SIRIUS XM RADIO is carrying coverage from THE WEATHER CHANNEL on channels 1 and 184.
