KATY PERRY's "Firework" won Video of the Year as MTV handed out its 2011 Video Music Awards in a nationally-televised show from LOS ANGELES SUNDAY night. BRITNEY SPEARS, NICKI MINAJ, and the FOO FIGHTERS took home top pop, hip-hop, and rock honors, respectively, while ADELE's "Rolling in the Deep" won four technical awards and LADY GAGA's "Born This Way" won two awards.
The awards were overshadowed by the news that BEYONCE KNOWLES is pregnant with her first child by JAY-Z; LADY GAGA kicked things off as her male character "Jo Calderone," while ADELE's performance of "Someone Like You" stood out and a tribute to AMY WINEHOUSE featured TONY BENNETT, whose duet with WINEHOUSE, "Heart and Soul," turned out to be WINEHOUSE's final recording, and a performance by BRUNO MARS.
