The RIAA is crying foul over portable XM and SIRIUS receivers that can record and store songs, reports the NEW YORK POST. The recording industry organization has been discussing the devices with both satellite radio providers, but the receivers are still scheduled to come out in fourth quarter despite the RIAA's contention that they violate copyright laws.
The fight is brewing as the music industry gets ready to fight the satellite radio companies over royalty rates, with the current seven year deal being described as "vastly below market rates" by WARNER MUSIC GROUP's EDGAR BRONFMAN JR.
