EMMIS RADIO's AUSTIN cluster held a daylong donation drive on WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 7th for the victims of the Central Texas wildfires. The drive resulted in $25,314 raised for the RED CROSS OF CENTRAL TEXAS and three truck loads of much-needed supplies for the CATHOLIC DIOCESE CHARITIES OF CENTRAL TEXAS.
The drive took place at multiple locations throughout the city. Newsradio KLBJ-A/F was at the RUDY’S COUNTRY STORE AND BAR-B-Q; KGSR and BOB-FM were at RUDY’S COUNTRY STORE AND BAR-B-Q in Round Rock; and 107.1 LA Z and 101X were at LA HACIENDA.
The collected supplies and monetary donations were in addition to a large delivery truck full of supplies that were donated by listeners of the DUDLEY AND BOB Show on KLBJ on TUESDAY morning, benefiting the first responders and fire victims assisted by THE AUSTIN CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP.
In addition, KLBJ provided extensive coverage of the wildfires, including the only live continuous media coverage of the danger beginning SUNDAY night at 7:30p. PD MARK CAESAR and talk host KENNY RAHMEYER anchored the live coverage featuring frequent live updates from News Dir. TODD JEFFRIES and reporters JARROD ALLEN and BARBARA MCCARLEY.
KLBJ also allowed listeners to call throughout the night with first-hand accounts of the multiple fires threatening the area. This type of real-time eyewitness reporting provided invaluable information to central Texas residents regarding the fire’s path, damage, and all related efforts to aid the victims.
