CLEAR CHANNEL's iHEARTRADIO MUSIC FESTIVAL at the MGM GRAND GARDEN ARENA (9/23), in LAS VEGAS has lived up to all the fanfare and promise of being the "Biggest Concert Event In Radio History," as the iHEARTRADIO app moves from beta to its first release to challenge PANDORA, SPOTIFY and a host of other online listening experiences. And night number two (9/24) did not disappoint (see coverage below, Night Two -- Double Wows).
The iHEARTRADIO MUSIC FESTIVAL is a major success for CLEAR CHANNEL RADIO's BOB PITTMAN, JOHN HOGAN, all of the CLEAR CHANNEL stations, and the army of CC staffers who made it happen.
MC'd by KISS-FM/LOS ANGELES' and nationally syndicated star RYAN SEACREST, with an appearance from WHTZ (Z100)/NEW YORK's and nationally syndicated personality ELVIS DURAN, who both introduced acts and promoted the iHEARTRADIO app. The first night of music (9/23) the lineup wowed the crowd. There was enthusiastic response for:
BLACK EYED PEAS
KELLY CLARKSON
BRUNO MARS
CARRIE UNDERWOOD (introed by JOE JONAS)
KARMIN -- the only new act on lineup releasing soon from EPIC
JANE'S ADDICTION
COLDPLAY
ALICIA KEYS
JAY-Z"I've been to many musical events, but this was truly one of the best I've seen in years," commented ALL ACCESS President/Publisher JOEL DENVER.
"While a stunning accomplishment for CLEAR CHANNEL RADIO, with this spectacular concert, the live broadcast across most CLEAR CHANNEL stations, and the iHEART site and app and XBOX 360, this is a big win for radio itself as it clearly demonstrates the medium's ability to coordinate a larger-than-life event like the iHEARTRADIO MUSIC FESTIVAL and develop technology to merge a platform for live radio that also allows customized playlists. I'm looking forward to tomorrow night's show, too. Bring it on!"
Night Two -- Double Wows
The second night of superstars kicked off with STEVEN TYLER and he brought along some friends ... JEFF BECK, STING, fellow AMERICAN IDOL icon RANDY JACKSON and NICOLE SCHERZINGER. The rest of the night's huge lineup featured:
NICKI MINAJ
KARMIN (their second appearance)
RASCAL FLATTS (with NATSHA BEDINGFIELD joining for a song)
JENNIFER LOPEZ
SUBLIME with ROME
NICOLE SCHERZINGER
DAVID GUETTA (with USHER doing first live performance of "Without You")
KENNY CHESNEY
LADY GAGA (closed the show with a non-stop performance, joined by STING)DENVER added, "The music, the production -- everything was first class for the iHEARTRADIO MUSIC FESTIVAL, on both nights. Now everyone wants to know -- will this be an annual event?"
