Country great JOHNNY WRIGHT has passed away TODAY (9/27) at the age of 97 of natural causes. WRIGHT and wife KITTY WELLS spent 74 years together.
WRIGHT was born in MOUNT JULIET, TN and first performed with JACK ANGLIN in 1936. In 1937, he married KITTY. The two, along with WRIGHT’s sister LOUISE, performed as JOHNNIE WRIGHT & THE HARMONY GIRLS. In 1939, WRIGHT And ANGLIN formed the duo JOHNNIE & JACK. They teamed up full-time in the 1940s and, except for the time ANGLIN spent overseas during World War II, remained together for more than two decades.
Following ANGLIN’s death in an automobile accident in 1963, WRIGHT continued performing and releasing records.
KITTY and JOHNNY have three children -- RUBY, CAROL SUE and BOBBY.
Visitation will be held on THURSDAY (9/29) at the MADISON CHURCH OF CHRIST in MADISON, TN from 11a until 2p (CT). Funeral services will be held in the same location on FRIDAY (9/30) at 2p (CT). The MADISON CHURCH OF CHRIST is located on the corner of Gallatin Road and Old Hickory Blvd. in MADISON.
