Country singer/songwriter JOHNNY MATHIS -- not the '50s-''70s pop singer of the same name -- passed away at his home on TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 27th. He was 80.
MATHIS began his career as a recording artist under the label STAR TALENT in 1949. He was also a part of the duet, JIMMY AND JOHNNY, who is known for the hit “If You Don’t Somebody Else Will.” As a songwriter, his songs have been recorded by GEORGE JONES, TAMMY WYNETTE, JOHNNY PAYCHECK, CHARLIE PRIDE, and many others. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, JEANNIE MATHIS.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by LAWRENCE BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME of CHAPEL HILL, TN, and more information can be found on www.lawrencefuneral.net.
